joseph michael is a freelance photographer who lives and works in toronto, ontario, canada.

in april of 2007 he returned from six months in east africa where he worked on a number of projects, including one he will use towards completing his master's degree in photography (M.S.) at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

while in africa, joseph worked and photographed in the urban slums of Kampala, in the displacement camps of war-torn northern Uganda and at a community based rehabilitation center in rwanda's capital, kigali.

in 2006, joseph's world cup project, "32 Nations, 1 City" received media attention and was featured on CBC radio and television.

he is a citizen of both canada and the united states.

in 2001 he graduated from the University of Notre Dame in south bend, indiana with a B.A. in the program for liberal studies, also known as the great books program.

joseph has lived and worked in four continents.
